Ouch. Normally, at this juncture of the electoral cycle, one could confidently expect a “giveaway” pre-budget report from the Chancellor of Exchequer. Not so yesterday from Alistair Darling, who has quite clearly ” run out of our money “, to quote MEP Daniel Hannan.
