Bernanke and the Dollar…Part Two
Bernanke and the Dollar…Part Two
In December, I posted about Ben Bernanke ( Bernanke’s Background and Near-Term US Monetary Policy ), specifically about how a basic understanding of Bernanke’s academic background and philosophical approach to monetary policy could be useful for predicting the general direction of interest rates, irrespective of prevailing economic conditions....
What Now For Europe?
What Now For Europe?
With Greek 2yr yields skyrocketing north of 10%, it would appear likely that the Hellenic Republic has passed the point of no return. While the euro has weakened sharply over the last couple of days, if this is in fact “the big one”, then there could be a heckuva lot more downside to the single currency, especially if/when the market...

Bernanke’s Plan Z
U.S. equities turned positive, erasing triple digit losses in the second half of the NY trading session. The British pound, Swiss Franc and commodity currencies benefited from the weakness in the greenback. The Japanese Yen moved lower which...
USD/CAD – Bear Market Rally
USD/CAD – Bear Market Rally
After rebounding off support in the 1.0200 price region late last week, USD/CAD (a daily chart of which is shown) has reflected strong dollar-strengthening in the past couple of days by breaking out above several key resistance areas. This includes the 1.0400 price region that was just broken on Wednesday. Currently, as of early Thursday (1/21/2010)...
Pink Flamingos (Part XI?)
Pink Flamingos (Part XI?)
Events necessitate that today’s post is somewhat brief… Although liquidity in the German bond market returned after a couple of hours of confusion and discussions with legal teams, the damage was done. The unpredictable behaviour of politicians in the face of financial crisis evoked memories of the failed TARP vote in September 2008...
