Australia Hikes Rates; How about the Carry Trade?
Following up on my last post , I want to use this post to write about the long side of the carry trade- specifically the Australian Dollar. The Bank of International Settlements (BIS) observed in a recent report that, “The role of short-term interest rate differentials in both the deprecations and their reversal has grown over time.”...

This rate decision was different in Britain – one member, Andrew Sentance, wants to address the rising inflation and to raise the rates. This is the first signal. GBP/USD reacts with a rise and aims to reach 1.50. Andrew Sentance doesn’t disregard inflation like his boss Mervyn King. King, the governor of the Bank of England, blamed fuel...
Emerging Market Currencies Continue their Run
Emerging Market Currencies Continue their Run
Since most emerging market economies and financial markets are fairly small, their currencies are subject to the whims of international investors, moreso than is the case with major currencies. For that reason, when I research emerging market currencies as a whole, I often like to focus on what investors are saying are saying about their stocks...

Japan, Deflation and Mortgage convexity
Team Macro Man look at the rates market and cannot help but scratch their collective heads. The mess that is the Eurozone, along with a swathe of disappointing US data, have moved several metrics that they look at to levels that imply very high probabilities of a deflationary outcome. Now, Team Macro Man definitely agrees that things are not so...
